What do they do?
College Funding Coach teaches parents the secrets of how to save and pay for college without jeopardizing their own retirement savings. This is now a national platform teaching hundreds of workshops each year to families seeking this valuable advice. The organization is geared towards schools, families and other financial institutions. As they recruit more financial advisors, they are able to spread the advice and support more families and schools through this crucial financial planning.

How did we connect with them?
Striking Media’s Helen had met Brock Jolly years ago and maintained a great connection. A mutual respect meant that when Brock was seeking a production company to create event videography and support his work, he needed to look no further than Striking Media.

Project
A two day event in DC with multiple speakers and testimonials to capture. Striking Media captured event videography to produce a hype reel, testimonials to encourage others to come to future events and all the speakers were captured, allowing the content to also be shared through the internal network of College Funding Coach advisors.

The Team
The crew was led by the media production company producer Helen Saks who did the planning and set up and DOP Jonathan Thorpe as tech lead. Production Assistants Josh Pittman and Jenna Fitzgerald were on hand for support as there we needed to move equipment throughout the day between speakers and testimonial content.

Pre-production
A whole lot of planning went into running this production smoothly. With multiple moving parts, it was important that Striking Media seamlessly fitted into the conference capturing event videography, supporting our client at every step of the way. Although Helen was on vacation during this time, it’s never truly a vacation when you have your own business, so Helen and Brock had several pre production planning calls to ensure client expectations were met. We’re big into planning, so it’s never a problem to talk through a client’s needs, and when the view is the Mediterranean Sea, it’s still a pleasure!

So how did it go?
It went beautifully! Client was pleased. Production was pleased. The team blended into the background so the focus was clearly on the speakers and captured some awesome soundbites from guests who appreciated the time out to learn and grow in this ever changing financial community. In fact, one of our favorite ‘problems’ resulted – we had too much good content so had to figure out who to cut!

Any challenges?
Event videography can be tricky as the team has to keep up with the schedule and with batteries to recharge and footage to download there’s a lot of juggling. However, with two PA’s on the job, there was lot of support. Logistically, the team spent time working out what equipment to leave in the testimonial space and what to use on the speakers, meaning we could move as little kit as possible while pivoting back and forth between the main room and the second room. On the day(s) nobody was kept waiting so the prep was worth the great result!
