Case Study - Smart Roof Golf Videography Project

What do they do?
SmartRoof specializes in roofing and solar solutions with white-glove customer service and quick, seamless professional installation.
How did we connect with them?
SmartRoof is a longstanding client of Striking Media. We have done multiple videography projects for them over several years, including capturing trips for top salespeople in Los Angeles and Punta Cana, their annual kick off meeting which set the tone for targets for 2024, leadership meetings and previous golf videography days.
Project:
This project was to capture the annual golf day that is a key day in the SmartRoof calendar. The golf is the ‘fun’ but the ‘why’ is the philanthropic effort to support SmartRoof’s chosen partner, Cultiva, whose mission is to foster economic growth, support capacity-building initiatives, and promote sustainable development worldwide.
The Team:
The videography team was led by lead videographer Jonathan Thorpe and assisted by production assistant Jesus Rosario. Producer Helen Saks did the behind the scenes work to determine client expectations for the content and desired end result.
Pre-production:
Helen led a videography planning call with the SmartRoof team to determine the goals for the video and the end result. The client made it clear that it was important to capture the atmosphere of the day and the focus on philanthropy. SmartRoof is clear in their mission to give back to the community and this is a key philanthropic event in the calendar. On the Striking Media side, we requested a golf buggy (not just for fun!) to manage the movement of the equipment. We were also mindful of what equipment to take out on the golf course for the day and the unpredictability of the weather.
So how did it go?
SmartRoof’s golf tournament 2023 was a rainy gray day, so we were all hoping for sunshine and everyone got lucky! It was a beautiful sunny day. Activities started early at 8am and Striking Media captured a group photo before the teams headed out. Then it was time for golf! The Striking Media team followed the players around the course, capturing some fun shots of playing and camaraderie before the all important check-giving at the end of the tournament. It was a proud moment for all involved when SmartRoof presented Cultiva with a big check (physically and monetarily) to support their work.
Any challenges?
Always looking to be creative and produce new material (no project is ever copy and paste) Jonathan placed himself low to the ground to create some stunning images of the ball being hit. Fortunately, he was never in the line of fire, although some would say he risked a little more than was necessary for his art!
Client feedback:
SmartRoof was thrilled with the project. This was exactly what they had been looking for to showcase the event and felt the video summed up the fun and the why in equal measure. Good job done! Off to the 19th hole!!!!
